Cigar Store Indian

Circa 1930 highly unusual and rare solid stone cigar store figure in the form of an Indian Chief, with fine detailing over the entire figure, exceptional polychrome painted  surface, excellent condition.

 

The figure was made by the Universal Statuary Corporation, Chicago Illinois. The company was founded in 1930 by brothers Jack and Leo Lucchesi. Although they made a number of items, they were known for creating the Indians as store and restaurant displays. The figures were likely made using Portland Cement which produced such a fine and detailed surface. 42” high; the base is 10” deep x 12” wide; weight is 115 pounds. Item 802.25
