Late 19th copper horse weathervane with a cast iron head in the Colonel Patchen form, showing detailed musculature and a flowing mane and tail, all in an exceptional old gilt, sizing and verdigris surface, excellent condition, private collection, New Jersey origin, contemporary custom table mount and wall brackets included.
George M Patchen was a famous trotting race horse foaled in 1849 at the Sickles Stud Farm, Pleasant Valley, Mammoth County New Jersey and died in 1864. He was a world champion in harness and under saddle racing. The horse was named after Brooklyn NY newspaper executive and sportsman George M Patchen.
