Rare late 19th century three dimensional plaster phrenology head with amazing folk art appeal showing great detailing and graphics with red painted incised lines and numerals, dated 1884 on one side, A Schnedt Fulton ILL on the other side, exceptional age cracked red and black painted surface, excellent condition. 11” high x 5.25” wide x 6.75” deep. In the nineteenth century phrenologists used these busts as teaching and demonstration tools to diagnose personality and character traits by measuring and feeling bumps and indentations on a person's skull; however, the scientific community later debunked this as a pseudo scientific  theory.
