This sign came out of a grange hall in Ohio. The word grange came to mean a USA farmers association which worked for the rights of small farmers and built Grange Halls across the country for granger meetings and gatherings, most of which were in rural farming communities.
The National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry worked to promote economic and political wellbeing of the community with regard to agriculture, crops and breeding of animals, with the emphasis on the small farmer.
The National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry worked to promote economic and political wellbeing of the community with regard to agriculture, crops and breeding of animals, with the emphasis on the small farmer. Much like the Odd Fellows fraternal organization, grangers worked together to achieve their goals.
The motto of the Grange is In necessariis unitas, in dubiis libertas, in omnibus caritas which translates to ‘in essentials, unity; in nonessentials, liberty; in all things, charity’. Indeed, the word grange comes from the Latin word for grain, and is related to a granary or generically, a farm.
